It's day 297 of the year and main project. That means we are on Day 24 of the 31 Days of Hallowe'en challenge as well as the #31DayHorrorChallenge being hosted by Nightmare on Film Street.

I went with a Rob Zombie double feature today, as my own 31 Days of Hallowe'en theme is Any Sequel from Any Franchise, and I picked Rob Zombie's Halloween 2

It's been fifteen years since Michael Myers killed his family. Now, he's out of the asylum and looking to find his sister Laure. She's been adopted and is living with her best friend's family now; who just so happens to be the sheriff. As Michael beings his new night of terror, Dr. Loomis is doing a book tour promoting his tell all about Michael and Laure. This is what tips Laure off that she's the last living Myers.

I loved that he made Dr. Loomis a bit of a villain in this. The idea that Michael and Laure are psychically connected is an interesting twist. It leans a lot towards both the idea of the Thorn storyline as well as the through line of parts 4 and 5 of the original films.

And the prompt today for the 31 Days of Horror from Nightmare on Film Street was Don't Go Into The Basement. I picked House of 1000 Corpses

When a group of college students find themselves stranded in the middle of nowhere, they end up at the mercy of a family of serial killers. The Firefly family are insane devil worshipers who kidnap the group with intent of offering the women to a butcher who lives underground.

I know this is considered a cult classic and pretty much every Rob Zombie fan loves this film...except for me. I have to admit, I just don't connect with this movie at all. Which is odd, because I love art house films, and just adore the bulk of Rob Zombie's other works. But, I find the ending to be a bit confusing and I honestly don't like the style this film was shot in. The scenes shot in negative / night vision just don't work at all and takes you out of the narrative.

I'm posting everyday this month, so come back tomorrow and see what's on the slab. And if you'd like to follow along with my daily Letterboxd lists, you can here and here.
