2024 Hallowe'en Movie Challenges Day 24

It's 298 days into the year and my project, which means it's Day 24 of the 31 Days of Hallowe'en challenge. Today, I've got one movie that covers both my own 31 Days of Hallowe'en challenge, I posted about that back in August; as well as the 31 Day Horror challenge being hosted by Nightmare on Film Street. My mini challenge today is Your Favourite Scream Queen and the one being hosted by Nightmare on Film Street's mini theme today is Period Piece. I decided on the movie Ginger Snaps 3 Ginger Snaps Back :The Beginning.

When two sisters find themselves in the harsh Canadian country during winter, they have no choice but to spend the night at a fur trading fort. Unknown to them, the men who work at the fort are hiding a brutal secret, as werewolves have them locked into the fort.

Bit of a prequel, as it's set in the 1700's when the Hudson Bay Company was just starting to build Canada. Funny to say that, but if it hadn't of been for the fur trappers and traders, much of Canada wouldn't have been mapped out. This is an interesting take on the idea of the werewolf curse, as we see alternate versions of Ginger and Bridgette learning that their actions will affect any descendants they end up having. Ginger is bitten while at the fort, while Bridgette learns from a local Elder that if she doesn't kill her sister, the curse will continue. When Bridgette is unable to do so, the fort becomes overrun with werewolves. The two sisters flee to safety, with Ginger more than half turned and Bridgette on the brink of death. Clearly, one or both survive long enough to have a family if these are the ancestors of the modern day characters we first meet in the original movie.

This movie mentions both fate and destiny, and how we're born to repeat both. Sometimes, because we have yet to learn our lesson, other times lessons have nothing to do with it. We're just meant to repeat elements.

Don't forget to check out my daily Letterboxd lists, as I am doing a few movie challenges this year. One of which is the #100HorrorMoviesIn92Days

Come back tomorrow to see what's on the slab.
