It's Day 295 of the year and main project, which means we're sitting at Day 22 of the 31 Days of Hallowe'en challenge, as well as the #31DayHorrorChallenge being hosted by Nightmare on Film Street.
Starting as always with my own 31 Days of Hallowe'en, my theme today is Mutant Creature. I picked Piranhaconda.

When a scientist discovers a nest of large eggs on a remote area of Hawaii, he uncovers a giant hybrid serpent. The creature devours his team, leaving him searching for help. Stumbling upon an old factory, he finds himself face to face with a group of kidnappers. The kidnappers have taken a film crew hostage in hopes of squeezing the production company for ransom. But before anything can be done, the mutant serpent goes on a killing spree.
This is one of those extremely low budget films filled with way too much CGI. But, it does have a few decent actors such as Michael Madsen and soap actor Michael Swan. It came out in 2012 when a ton of these low budget high CGI creature features were being pumped out. It's not the worst of the genre but not the best either.
And the prompt today for the 31 Day Horror Challenge from Nightmare on Film Street is Wes Craven Deep Cut. I picked The Serpent and the Rainbow.
When an anthropologist is asked to go to Haiti to find the infamous powder that can create zombies, for medical use, he finds himself in the middle of a political and religious war happening in the area.
This is based on a true story. It dives into the ideas of religious freedoms and politics, consumerism, class/status, greed, power and how faith can sometimes be a crutch. The lead character is seen near the opening of the movie, having just participated in a ritual. This automatically puts him into a drug induced hallucination, where he has a life like premonition of zombies. You are left wondering at the end of the film, if he ever actually came out of the hallucination or not?
I'm posting everyday this month for the two challenges, so come back tomorrow and see what's on the slab. If you want to follow along with my daily Letterboxd lists you can here and here.
