It's Day 296 of my project and of the year. This means, we are on Day 22 of the 31 Days of Hallowe'en challenges. As always, I'm starting with my own 31 Days of Hallowe'en challenge, which I talked about back in August. My mini challenge today was Tubi Original. I picked You Shouldn't Have Let Me In.
While at a vacation wedding, the bridal party end up accidentally inviting a vampire into their home.
This is fairly straight forward. We've got a group people who decide to go clubbing for the bachelorette party and bump into the man who owns the villa they are renting. Unaware he's not what he seems, they invite him over to party with them. Meanwhile, a vampire hunter is lurking around one of the party members. We learn that one of the bride's maids is the love lost reincarnated lover of the vampire, and he'll stop at nothing to win her back.
It is nothing we haven't seen before. I did like the touches of bending reality so there are moments when you're not sure when the vampire is using mind control.
And the 31 Days of Horror Challenge being hosted by Nightmare on Film Street. Their theme today is Cults and Covens. I picked York Witches Society.
During the witch trails in the 1600's a woman is burned at the stake by the witch finder general. As she does, she curses him to purgatory. 500 years later, a college student pledges a sorority and learns she's actually joined a coven. Only catch is, now they've unleashed the witch finder general from his tomb.
As much as this reminds me of parts of The Craft and The Evil Dead, it also really reminded me of that Angelina Jolie movie Foxfire. It's done with limited locations, giving it that isolation fear quality. It does have about eight main characters, some of whom you barely get the name of before they are killed by the witch finder general. I almost wish more time was spent fleshing out some of these characters, as everyone seems to be a little bit of a one note.
Don't forget to check out my daily Letterboxd lists, a I am doing more a few movie challenges this October. One of which is the #100HorrorMoviesIn92Days .
Come back tomorrow to see what's on the slab.
