2024 Hallowe'en Movie Challenges Day 31

It's Day 305 of the year and projects, which means we've made it to Hallowe'en and the final day, Day 31, of the 31 Days of Hallowe'en challenges. I've got one movie for today, because both my own 31 Days of Hallowe'en challenge and the 31 Days of Horror Challenge hosted by Nightmare on Film Street has the same mini theme. Set on Hallowe'en Night. I picked The Good Things Devils Do.

When a couple of thieves are given a job to do on Hallowe'en night by the local mob boss, things go horribly wrong. They think they are just meant to crack a vault, grab the cash and leave. But, to their shock, there is no money. There is no vault. In fact, there is not real job. Their boss just wants to get them out of the way to eliminate them. Unknown to all involved, the targeted house is owned by a professor who just happens to have a vampire in his house.

This whole plot line of a group of hired thieves braking into a house with a female vampire is starting to become a sub-genre all it's own. Before long, it's going to be a trope.

I liked the majority of this movie. It got a little bogged down in the last act where it was literally getting a little preachy, but otherwise, it was good. There was some weird sexism sub-plot happening through most of it; that left me wondering if that was the main reason for the movie? Was it just meant to be a social commentary on feminism? Not sure, but it was gory.

And that wraps it up for the 2024 31 Days challenges. I am still doing the One Movie a Day until the end of the year, if you'd like to follow my daily Letterboxd lists. And I'll be back in a few days with a wrap up of the #100HorrorMoviesIn92Days challenge too.

Happy Hallowe'en
