It's day 304 of the year and projects. That means, we are sitting at Day 30 of the 31 Days of Hallowe'en challenges. And, I'm starting with my own 31 Days of Hallowe'en as always. I've talked about it back in August. My theme today is Monster Mash. I picked The Monster Project.
A group of horror film makers decide to heir real monsters to make their next movie. Only things don't go as they planned.
Done in a found footage style, this follows a group as they lock themselves in an old house for the night with a vampire, demon and skinwalker; not believing any of them are real. It quickly becomes more than they can handle, as they deal with not just their movie monsters, but their own personal demons. The group find themselves being hunted within the confines of the locked house, and stumble upon a coven of devil worshipers.
So, the twist isn't much of a twist. The monster effects are split between mostly practical for the vampires and the skinwalkers, and then digital for the demon. As well as being shot in low light night vision, which gives this movie an almost black and white-blue hue. I actually liked this film. I thought the practical effects of the two main creatures was brilliant. The story is there, the acting was better than most low budget films, but the night vision hue was a little headache inducing. That's really about the only problem I had with this. It's cheesy in the best way, and again, the practical effects are worth it. I just wish they'd used the night vision a little less at times.
And the 31 Days of Horror challenge being hosted by Nightmare on Film Street. Their challenge today is Black and White. I picked the Night of the Living Dead.
A group of strangers are forced to spend the night locked together in a farm house near a graveyard, as the dead have begun to rise.
This is the classic that started it all. Based heavily on the vampire novel I Am Legend, in fact Romero himself stated in an interview once it was; it sets the ground work for every modern zombie in pop culture.
Don't forget to check out my daily Letterboxd lists, as I am doing a few movie challenges right now. One being the #100HorrorMoviesIn92Days
Come back tomorrow to see what the final movie of these challenges are.
