2024 Did The Movie Make Me Do It? part 9

It's day 214 in the project and the year. And it's that part in the month where I come in and give an update on how the big 2024 project is going. I've outlined the whole point of this Did The Movie Make Me series in the first two parts which I will link here and here.

It's been a quite and uneventful month. No real progress on anything. So I'm just going to skip to the part where I tell you what movies I watched this month that I liked the most.

Deadpool 3: Deadpool and Wolverine. I went on what was listed as the opening day Friday the 26th of July, but we all know that in the last few years, the night before is the unofficial opening day. I remember when opening day was just that, opening day, and the one time there was special midnight showings of a movie the night before was for the Star Wars Phantom Menace but that was a different time and that was a monumental moment in movie history. A new Star Wars movie...twenty years almost after the original trilogy? That was never done before. Now, nothing is sacred and release dates are just a suggestion in the minds of most people.

I liked this movie. Deadpool 3 I mean. I can't remember the last time I was this excited for a movie release to the point I had to go opening weekend? Last year's Renfield might be as close as it comes, beyond that I think the last time I was really excited might have been...I actually had to stop and think, which means it's been too long since a movie release meant something to me. Well, it's been years then since a movie "released at the cinema" has meant something to me. A movie release that did not go to cinemas but to home release that had me practically dancing with excitement was Rob Zombie's The Munsters. I've seen that movie nearly 200 times already. I had pre-ordered my bluray and picked it up on release day.

I keep loosing the plot here, Deadpool 3; has made the term "summer blockbuster" mean something again. Everyone in the world either saw the movie or was talking about it. Biggest movie box office in decades. And I know they are going on about how it broke records for a "R-rated" movie, but here in Canada, it's only a "14-A". Which means, if you can prove your over 13 or otherwise with a parent/someone older than you, no problem here's your ticket. And when I went, the screening room was wall to wall, half of which were little kids...and I mean under the age of 10. It's amazing how many people these days have zero issue with the amount of violence is in something and just let their kids watch whatever without thinking about it, but yet, one nude scene would outrage them? It was the opposite back when I was a kid in the 1980's. You would see naked boobs or butts in everything, but violence on the other hand, that was spares.

If you want to keep up with the actual One Movie A Day list I'm doing this year, you can find that on my Letterboxd profile (link here dude)

As I am writing this, it's the first of August 2024, which means Spirit Halloween opens in my city tomorrow. Which means my city has finally started Hallowe'en season!

I'll be back in early September with the next round of Did That Movie Make Me?
