It's the first of the calendar year, and everyone is looking at things with fresh hope and anticipation. Making plans and taking names. I'm no different. Only, my big plan is to spend the year once again watching at least one movie a day. This is a challenge I've done a handful of times over the last fifteen years. Some years were more successful than others.
Now, movie fans; especially horror movie fans- have this theory that the first movie you watch in the calendar year, sets the tone for that coming year. Last year, I watched an Agatha Christie movie on January 1st. I posted last month, that I noticed how my 2023 had indeed mirrored part of the movie's plot. With that in mind, I decided to try an experiment this year. I decided to choose a movie ahead of time, one I already know the plot to, to be my first watch of 2024.
In the course of 2024 I am going to keep record of the results. The questions I'm posing are if we see the film and then create unconsciously as much of the movie plot as possible in our world, or if we pick the movie unconsciously because somewhere within us, we already know we're suppose to live that reality? You can follow along as I will be posting throughout the year, plus keeping a daily list of the movie a day on my letterboxd.
I decided to sit down this morning and watch Rob Zombie's The Munsters.
This is a movie I've already posted about on this site as part of my big Hallowe'en movie marathon. It was Day 7 of the October 2023 posts in the Hallowe'en Challenge/Horror Challenges. In fact, I also created a recipe inspired by the film. This is set as a prequel to the television series from the 1960's, and is basically a romance. We follow the early days of Lily and Herman's relationship just before they move to 1313 Mockingbird Lane.
I'll be back at the beginning of February with the first update.
