Hallowe'en Horror Challenge Progress part 2

I wrote recently about how I am doing four movie challenges this year mostly on Letterboxd. As I write this, it is Day 267 of my general One Movie A Day Challenge, which means we are 267 days into 2023. Two of the challenges do not start until the first of October, at which point I will be back to talk about them. But, the fourth challenge is the #100HorrorMoviesIn92Days challenge. (here is my list so far)

As of this morning, I have reached movie 52 of the 100. As I've said before, this challenge has been around for a few years, but this is the first time I've taken part in it. The rules seem to be simple enough, watch 100 horror movies that you've never seen before within the 92 days and talk about them. I had mentioned on Letterboxd to the person hosting it/creator of it, the 100 part is a snap, the having never seen them before, the actual challenge.

So, with keeping inline with my last progress update, I will give you the second part of my list with my thoughts on what disappointed me the most and what surprised me the most.

August 30th- I watched Headless Horseman

September 2nd- I watched Pope's Exorcist

September 3rd- I watched 10/31 and 10/31 part 2

September 4th- I watched Phantasm 5 Ravager

September 7th- I watched Mortuary

September 11th- I watched Witchmaster General 2009

September 12th- I watched Open Graves

September 13th- I watched Saw

September 14th- I watched Saw 2, Don't Let Her In, Necropolis Legion

September 15th- I watched Spiral Book of Saw, In the Tall Grass

September 18th- I watched Saw 4, Candy Land

September 21st- I watched Saw Final Chapter (Saw 3D) , Bring It On Cheer or Die, Ticked Off Trannies with Knives,

September 23rd- I watched Totem, Slumber Party Massacre 1982, Incarnate

What surprised me the most? The original Saw movie. I had been under the impression that this franchise was so gruesome, so nightmare inducing that only truly sick minds would want to watch it. I was really pleasantly surprised to find out that the first movie in the series was more of a detective drama, with most of the horror off screen leaving everything to your imagination. It was well plotted out, the pacing matched the story, and it was intelligent. It left me wanting to see more.

What was my biggest disappointment? Ironically, it was Saw 4. I found it to be too much for the sake of being too much. If this movie had been made when I was a teenager it would have delighted me to no end. But 49 year old me just was not impressed. Now, granted, I've only had a chance to see about half the movies in this franchise, and I have to admit; I was unaware you needed to follow them in order to really get the scope of it. I figured like most horror films, as long as you watched the first one in a franchise first you would be okay. Ends up, not the case. I'm hoping by the end of this Hallowe'en season, to have tracked down the remaining ones that are available; minus the tenth installment which as of this article/post is not even in cinemas yet.

As of today's post, we are a week away from the start of the other two movie challenges. That's when we might start to see certain things beginning to overlap, as the other two challenges have mini themes to them. I'll be back on the first of October to kick off both those challenges.
