Hallowe'en 2023 Day 25- Vincent Price and Book to Film

It's Day 298 of my One Movie a Day for 2023, and it's Day 25 of both my own 31 Days of Hallowe'en project as well as the 31 Days of Horror Challenge being hosted by Nightmare on Film Street. And, can not forget the 100HorrorMoviesIn92Days challenge I joined this year.

And this section, is where I've been telling you all month long, about how over the last decade on my old social medias, from the 19th-31st of October, I would do a 13 Days of Hallowe'en project, where I would do movie reviews, recipes and comedy skits. But this year, I'm keeping it simple just doing stuff on this site and my Letterboxd.

The mini theme for today, for my own 31 Days of Hallowe'en project is Book To Film.

The mini theme for today for the 31 Days of Horror Challenge being hosted by Nightmare on Film Street is Vincent Price Movies. I ended up going with The Last Man On Earth; as it covers both categories.

Scientist Robert Morgan has been living on the planet for the last three years believing he's the soul survivor of a plague. At night he hides from the vampires that roam the streets, and by daylight he does what he can to survive.

The movie was released back in 1964, it's based on the novel I Am Legend from 1954. I've seen a few adaptations of the novel to date, and so far I think it's the most faithful to it. Not really the best as far as movies themselves go, but the most faithful to the book.

I've mentioned so often in the past how the source material in the original book is what inspired the zombie culture as we know it, and I think it's interesting that a story about vampires and plague became the base point for zombie culture. What's really creepy is watching this movie in the present having just lived through the last few years of the covid. Which, like in the story, was a plague that was air bourn.

As much as I liked this movie, there are moments when it drags a little. The scenes midway when the doctors and scientists are talking about the plague symptoms and how they figure the best way to handle it is; is just delivered a little too dry. They are literally just sitting there. I kept waiting for them to get up from their seats and walk around or grab a note or make a coffee or something. Any kind of movement in that scene would have done wonders.

Come back tomorrow to see what I have up on the slab.
