It's the first of October, and we are 274 days into the year and the main project. But, it is time for the Hallowe'en movie challenges to begin! This year, once again, I'm doing my own personal 31 Days of Hallowe'en movie challenge as well as the 31 Days of Horror challenge hosted by Nightmare on Film Street.
Day 1 for my own challenge is Watch a Remake. I picked the 1982 movie Cat People
A young woman arrives in New Orleans for the first time to find her brother whom she has not seen in over twenty years. Within hours, she finds herself entangled in a murder as her brother is suspected by the police to be a serial killer. Coming to this conclusion after they had hunted down a wild panther believing her brother kept the animal. She's soon stalked by her own sibling who informs her they are part of a bloodline of were-cats. Can she hold off the hunger long enough to avoid being captured herself or will she meet a deadly fate?
This movie doesn't have a ton of gore, but what it does have is used very well. It's a suspense thriller that perfectly delves into identity, madness, loneliness and desire. Weaving you through a love triangle and hitting just the right erotic notes.

Next up is the 31 Days of Horror Challenge being hosted by Nightmare on Film Street. There theme today is My First Horror Movie.
This is a prompt that has popped up in past years, and on the first year that I had joined in; in 2022, which I posted on my old facebook page, I talked about the slasher movie Happy Birthday To Me. Which was the first slasher/gore movie I had seen as a kid. So, when I spotted this prompt again this year I decided to pick the movie that got me into the universal monsters. Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein.
When Chick and Wilbur are asked to move two large crates to a wax museum for a horror exhibit, they unknowingly deliver Dracula's coffin and the undead body of Frankenstein's monster. Just before they set out to make their deliveries, they receive a strange phone call from a Mr. Talbot warning them not to. Talbot shows up soon afterwards begging them to take him seriously, as he knows what dangers actually lay in the crates. When Chick and Wilbur explain to him they've already made the deliveries, Talbot becomes upset. Commenting that there is a full moon that night, he has them lock him in his room. Meanwhile, Wilbur has begun dating two women, both who it turns out are using him. One wants to track down Dracula while the other wants to use his brain to reanimate the monster.

I'll be posting everyday this month, so don't forget to check in. And you can follow along on my Letterboxd lists as well.
I'll be back tomorrow to see what else is on the slab.
