2024 Hallowe'en Adventures part 2: More Visits to Spirit

As I write this, it's Day 270 of the year and the project. I've managed so far to make it to my local Spirit Hallowe'en 4 times since it opened. Mostly within the month of August. You can check out my first visit of the year in the first part of this article series.

My second visit of the year was on the 11th of August. Half the animatronics had been sold out and a new set of characters were on display. I couldn't help myself, I had to take a "celebrity style" photo op when I spotted them.

I run a horror and Hallowe'en group on facebook, and about 30% of the people in my group, work during the Hallowe'en season at our local Spirit Hallowe'en. As I've mentioned before in my last article, it's the "IT" place to be working, to be shopping at and to be seen at during the season. I've learned in the last 2 years, that there are two main types of horror fans in my city; the decorators and the movie goers.

Then there is me. I fall firmly between these two idealistic camps. But I'll get to that in another article.

My 3rd visit of the year was on the 16th of August. Once again, the display animatronics had sold out, and a fresh design had been put up in it's place. My city has become a haunted house playground in the last few years, with dozens of lawn haunts and themed yards. Sadly, I've only been to a small few myself. The biggest haunted house event in our area, which was also the first in the area, closed it's doors last year, after having been around for decades. It had been located on a farm just outside of the city, and the owners retired. But it did spawn about four new copycat haunters this season.

My fourth visit was on August 20th. I timed that one specifically because a shipment truck was delivering new stuff. And yes, once more a new display had been created because yet another animatronic had sold out and needed to be replaced. I'm telling you, the circus vibes will be all over the yards this season. I've started to see announcements in my Hallowe'en and Horror group this week from people who have their lawn haunts ready for visitors. I'm hoping to actually get out this year and see a few. I missed everything last year because I was sick with the flu.

It's the end of September, and there's only one month left of the store being open for the season. I did not get a chance at all this month to visit, and I'm sure I lost out on seeing so many other displays, and chatting with some of the other Hallowe'en and horror fans in town, that I don't get to hang out with the rest of the year. But there are still more Hallowe'en adventures to be had in the next few weeks.

I'll have another round in this series soon.
