Best Disco Vampire

Updated: Jun 26, 2023

In the 2022 Rob Zombie movie The Munsters, we have a scene with Count Orlock, where he is disco dancing trying to impress Lily. The song playing in the background is actually called "Disco Vampire" and I have to say, I've added it to more than a few of my Spotify playlists since the release of the film. And clearly, Mr. Zombie knows when to throw a good old fashioned vampire cliche into the mix, as almost every great vampire movie has had a vampire seduction dance scene.

So here's a short list of some of the best dance floor seductions you can sink your teeth into.

Fright Night (1985) Probably the first one to come to most people's minds. The midway point in the film where Jerry Dangeridge is in the night club with Amy and they begin to dirty dance.

Rob Zombie's The Munsters (2022) As mentioned in the introduction, we see Count Orlock, after walking Lily to his doorway, hit the neon lights and sound machine trying to Saturday Night Fever his way into her cold black heart.

Fright Night Part 2 (1989) Charley and Peter Vincent arrive at a private party that Regine is having, where upon Regine hypnotizes Charley by dancing. Her smooth moves even include removing the cross he's carrying and using it like a pendulum, crossing between her real face and the one she's hiding behind.

Once Bitten (1987) Who can forget the school dance scene where Jim Carrey's character is being fought over via a dance off between his girlfriend and the Countess. Ah, the 80's cliches are all hit with perfection...one part dance off, one part Hallowe'en school dance equals comedic gold.

Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992) Mina and Dracula are on a very romantic through forbidden date with candles, absinthe and diamond tears. The dance is played off as an innocent introduction to the rest of the evening, but it locks in his power over her.

Van Helsing (2004) Dracula throws a fancy dress ball, everyone attends. Our heroine finds herself in a mirrored room filled with vampires.

I have to admit, of the list Van Helsing's ballroom blitz is my least favourite of them all. It played a little to generic for me. We see the same style of ballroom glory in Fearless Vampire Killers or Pardon Me But Your Teeth Are In My Neck and Labyrinth. A masquerade ball that revels everyone's fangs and true intentions.
