It's Day 288 of the year and main project, which means it's day 15 of the 31 Days of Hallowe'en challenge and the #31DayHorrorChallenge being hosted by Nightmare on Film Street.

I'm once again starting with my own 31 Days of Hallowe'en. And the mini theme today for that is Haunted House. I picked Amityville 2005.

A year after a family was brutally murdered in their home by the eldest son, a young family moves into the now abandoned house. Within hours of being there, the father begins to feel sick and starts to hallucinate. They learn that their daughter is communicating with a ghost, after she climbs to the top of the roof ready to jump off. Soon, the family realize that there is something in the house trying to control them.

I'm not going to lie, even though I'd seen Ryan Reynolds in a few movies before this, this is the one that made me like him as an actor. His character can be seen as the lead in this, and he's carrying the many different genres of drama/horror/suspense, able to blend them perfectly.

The prompt for today's 31 Day Horror Challenge from Nightmare on Film Street is Morgue Mayhem. I picked Re-Animator.

Two scientists discover the secret to bringing the dead back to life. Only, their supervisor wants the formula for himself. After he tries to steal it, Herbert kills him and uses the formula on him. The now reanimated supervisor has his sights set on the daughter of his best friend and will stop at nothing to get her.

So this is one of, if not the most famous H P Lovecraft stories brought to film. Though it does not follow the story completely, it's one of the best adaptations.

I'm posting everyday this month for the two challenges, so come back tomorrow and see what's on the slab. If you want to follow along on my two Letterboxd lists you can here and here.
