It's Day 285 of the year and main project, this brings us to Day 12 of the 31 Days of Hallowe'en challenge and the #31DayHorrorChallenge being hosted by Nightmare on Film Street.
As always, I'm starting with my own 31 Days of Hallowe'en challenge. And today's mini theme is Dolls/Toys/Puppets. I picked Five Nights At Freddy's

While haunted by memories of his younger brother's kidnapping, a young man who now is raising his younger sister, finds himself desperate for work. With little choice other than working as a security guard for a long since closed down theme restaurant, he quickly learns the building is haunted. Now he needs to solve the mystery of the ghosts while keeping his sister safe.
As much as I liked this movie, and it's got a lot going for it being half mystery half horror, I found myself comparing it not just to Willy's Wonderland but to an episode of Supernatural from season 7 Plucky Pennywhistle's Magical Menagerie. I know the episode of Supernatural actually came out before the original Five Night's video game.
The prompt today for the 31 Day Horror Challenge being hosted by Nightmare on Film Street is Shudder Original. I picked Deadstream.
When a videotuber decides to take a challenge and do a stunt of staying in a local haunted house alone overnight and live stream it, he is faced with one bad step after another. Midway through his stream, a woman shows up claiming to be his biggest fan. But he learns she's actually the ghost of the original owner and she wants to add him to her ranks.
This is simple but it works. The scares are minimal but effective. And as far as the editing goes, they are seamless. This is designed to be a found footage style film in a way, and uses living streaming cameras. This works perfectly for the style of story they are telling.
