It's Day 217 of the year and project. Time for a check in. For anyone stumbling upon this for the first time, I have been doing a one movie a day challenge this year. It's something I have done off and on for over a decade now. But this year, I'm going on the idea that the first movie you watch on January 1st influences your entire calendar year. So for 2025 I picked the movie Elvira Mistress of the Dark as my first movie of the year. And, as I've talked about in other posts, the first half of the movie did mirror the first half of the year for me.
Now I seem to be in a lull.
Well, sort of. If you've seen the movie, then you know it starts off with Elvira getting a letter saying her aunt died leaving her everything. If you've been reading these posts, you know I had a death in the family earlier this year. You also know I talked about my mother moving and I got a stack of books and a large bookcase. Sadly, after a battle with cancer, my mother also passed away last month. It's been a really difficult year.
All the drama from the movie seems to have hit home, but none of the joy and good stuff. None of the comedy.
On to lighter thoughts...the movie I saw this month that I liked the most...Sinners. It reminded me of From Dusk till Dawn and Interview with the Vampire. If you haven't seen it yet, it's about two brothers in the 1930's who stole some money from a mobster and decided to open a casino. It takes place over the course of about 24 hours, and is a really great isolation horror.
That's about it for today. I'll be back next month with the next check in.
