2024 Hallowe'en Movie Challenges Day 3

It's Day 277 of the year and project, which means it's Day 3 of the 31 Days of Hallowe'en challenges I'm doing this year. First up is my own challenge, the 31 Days of Hallowe'en challenge, which I posted about back in August; and my topic of the day is Closet Monster Scene. There must be at least one scene with a closet monster or closet fright. I picked the movie The Boogeyman.

An entire neighbourbood seems to be the target of a unseen killer. It only comes out in the darkness and feeds on fear and grief. A widower and his two children are the latest victims of what can only be considered the boogeyman.

I actually really enjoyed this one. I haven't seen anything really like this before. I've seen movies that hint at a shadow creature that feeds on emotions (vampire) but, those have mostly been made for television kids Hallowe'en movies, and of course the A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise. This one can hold it's own with the best of them, and dare I ask for a sequel? The idea of grief as a starting point isn't new, but it was handled in a way that makes it fresh. It opens up the idea of how society sees the grieving process and turns it on it's head. Our lead female is forced to grow up and take on a head of the family role when she's clearly not ready herself.

And the 31 Days of Horror challenge being hosted by Nightmare on Film Street , their mini challenge today is Revenge. I picked the movie Lillith.

When a college student returns home to find her boyfriend in bed with another woman, she turns to a local witch to help her get revenge by summoning a demon.

This at first glance, didn't seem like it would be much; but for a very low budget indie horror, it had some bones to it. There were a few tropes we've seen more than enough times about witches and lesbians, and the book or Revelations being used, but otherwise this had a story that could rival any major current blockbuster. The acting in this was a few notches above decent too for an indie.

I have to be honest though, I didn't care for the "men evil women good" notes that seemed to be the main underlining theme. We are however, given something a bit different in this with a succubus (vampire) who feeds off sexual energy and fear.

As I've stated in the last two posts, I'm not just doing these two movie challenges, I'm also doing my One Movie A Day all year, which you can follow along with on my Letterboxd. As well as the #100HorrorMoviesIn92Days challenge, which you can follow along with the list for as well.

I'll be back tomorrow with Day 4 of these two challenges, so come back and see what movies I picked for tomorrow's mini themes.
