2024 Hallowe'en Movie challenges Day 10

It's Day 284 of the year and my projects. Which means it's Day 10 of the 31 Days of Hallowe'en movie challenges. I'm starting off with my own 31 Days of Hallowe'en, which I talked about back in August. Today's mini challenge is Slasher from the 1970's. I picked Halloween.

When a babysitter and her friends are stalked on Hallowe'en night, no one is safe.

I'm going to assume that most people have seen this movie, or at the very least, one of the franchise. It's been talked about for nearly 50 years at this point, the classic slasher everyone thinks about when you say a slasher movie.

I know there are dozens of theories about this franchise, but I'll leave that for another time. Although not the first slasher to come out of the 1970's, it's by far the most popular. It basically set the "ground rules" that would eventually become a major plot point in the Scream franchise two decades later.

And the 31 Days of Horror challenge being hosted by Nightmare on Film Street. Their mini challenge today is Silly Scares. I picked Sharknado.

When a hurricane touches down in the LA area, it doesn't just bring displaced tidal waves with it, but dozens of displaced sharks. As the streets flood, the sharks begin to terrorize the people who are trapped by the rising waters.

I have to admit, the idea is there. I found the green screen CGI to be what drags this movie down, and what makes it laughable. Had this been done with practical effects, it could have been really good.

Two classic fears today. Stalkers/Psycho Killers and Sharks. One is rooted in our collective minds as a great cult classic and the other is about a bunch of washed up actors.

Don't forget to check out my daily Letterboxd lists, as I am doing a few movie challenges this month.

Come back tomorrow and see what's on the slab for the next round.
