It's Day 277 of the year and main project, that means we are on Day 4 of the 31 Days of Hallowe'en challenge as well as the 31 Days of Horror challenge being hosted by Nightmare on Film Street.

Starting with my own 31 Days of Hallowe'en Challenge, my theme today is Horror Movie From 2021. I picked Werewolves Within.

A ranger is just settling into his new post in a small town, when a snow storm hits, causing the entire population to spend the night together. One by one the townspeople are attacked by something no one can see. There's evidence of it being more than just an animal attack, and before the night is through, it's revealed to be a werewolf.

This is a cute little who-done-it with a classic horror twist. Though, if you've ever watched an episode of Supernatural, it doesn't take long to figure out who-done-it. This reminded me a lot of the movie The Dead Don't Die, only it takes itself a lot more seriously.

Next is the #31DayHorrorChallenge being hosted by Nightmare on Film Street. Their prompt today is Scarecrow or Cornfield. I picked Messengers 2 The Scarecrow. And just my luck, it has both.

A down on his luck farmer discovers an old scarecrow in a hidden cubby of his barn, and decides to planet it in the middle of his field. His young son starts to feel uneasy about it and even asks for him to remove it. Meanwhile, his neighbour talks him out of doing so, saying that he needs to keep it up. Before long, the farmer finds all his crops have grown overnight, the bank is leaving him alone and his luck has changed. Only, the neighbour is not really what he seems and neither is the scarecrow.

Little predictable at times, but it works in this film. Norman Reedus manages to bring a realness to this story, that in the hands of anyone else it would have seemed weightless.

If you want to follow along on my Letterboxd lists you can do so here and here.

I'll be posting all this month, so come back tomorrow and see what's on the slab..
